Terms of Service

Last updated: 2 July 2026

These terms govern your use of Sentinel, a website change monitoring service. By creating an account you agree to them. If you're using Sentinel on behalf of a company, you confirm you can accept these terms for that company.

The service

Sentinel checks publicly accessible web pages, PDFs, and feeds you choose, on a schedule, and notifies you when their content meaningfully changes. Summaries of changes are generated by AI and can occasionally be wrong or incomplete — verify important changes at the source before acting on them. Sentinel is a monitoring aid, not legal, compliance, or financial advice.

Your account

Keep your credentials and API keys confidential; you're responsible for activity under your account. You must provide a working email address so we can deliver alerts and service notices.

Acceptable use

  • Monitor only publicly accessible content. Don't use Sentinel to access anything behind authentication you aren't entitled to.
  • Don't monitor content where doing so is unlawful, or use monitoring output to harass, stalk, or harm anyone.
  • Don't attempt to overload monitored sites (we control check frequency in part for this reason), probe or disrupt Sentinel itself, or resell the service without our written agreement.
  • Respect the terms of the websites you monitor; you are responsible for your choice of monitored URLs.

We may suspend accounts that break these rules, with notice where practical.

Plans, billing, and refunds

Paid plans are billed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record, which handles payment processing and applicable taxes such as VAT. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; cancel any time and your plan runs to the end of the paid period. The free tier and 14-day trial need no card. If Sentinel materially failed to work for you during a billing period, email us within 14 days of the charge and we'll refund it — we'd rather refund than argue.

Service levels

We aim for reliable monitoring but don't guarantee uninterrupted service, that every change will be detected, or that no false alerts will fire. Check frequencies are targets, not guarantees. Planned maintenance and factors outside our control (including changes to monitored sites that block automated access) can affect checks.

Your data and content

You keep all rights to your configuration and data. You grant us the licence needed to fetch, store, and process the pages you ask us to monitor, solely to provide the service. Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

Intellectual property

Sentinel's software, design, and branding are ours. Content on the websites you monitor belongs to their respective owners; monitoring a page gives you no rights to its content.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: the service is provided "as is"; we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses (including losses from a missed or delayed change alert or an inaccurate AI summary); and our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to it. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including your statutory rights under the South African Consumer Protection Act where it applies.

Ending the agreement

You can close your account at any time. We can terminate or suspend the service for breach of these terms, or discontinue the service entirely with at least 30 days' notice, refunding any prepaid unused period.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; material changes will be emailed to account holders at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Sentinel after that means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and disputes fall under the jurisdiction of its courts, unless mandatory consumer law in your country provides otherwise.
